Fatman Scoop, the American rapper who was born Isaac Freeman III, has passed away. He was taken to the hospital after he collapsed on stage during a concert in Hamden, Connecticut, on Friday (Aug 30). The collapse occurred at approximately 8:33 pm (local time), according to TMZ. Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett had earlier confirmed the news of his collapse on Facebook, stating, “Tonight, while performing at Hamden Town Center Park, Isaac Freeman, also known as Fatman Scoop, had a medical emergency on stage. He is now being transported to the hospital by ambulance. We will share more information as soon as it’s available. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”
Several clips shared on social media show Freeman, who was shirtless, walking across the stage and interacting with the crowd. He approached a raised DJ booth and encouraged the audience to make some noise. Shortly after, he leaned on the booth and repeated his call to the crowd but suddenly collapsed beside the DJ.
Fans at the concert captured the alarming moment as medical staff arrived to help Freeman, performing chest compressions as he lay still on the ground.
More people then gathered around Freeman to assist and he was moved off the stage. He was then taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
Fatman Scoop is well-known for his hit song “Be Faithful,” which became popular in clubs around the world. He has delivered several other hits in the past.
