India has won a medal at the Paris Olympic Games 2024, a bronze medal to start with.
Ace shooter Manu Bhaker has scripted history by becoming the first woman athlete from India to win a medal in shooting at the Summer Games. On day two of the ongoing showpiece event worldwide, Bhaker finished third and won the bronze, missing the second-place spot by a whisker (0.1).
Manu was on the top of her game in the gold medal match, finishing with a score of 221.7, while the silver medallist, South Korea’s Kim Yeji, was on 221.8 at that time. However, the fight for the coveted first prize saw Korea’s OH Ye Jin winning the gold with an Olympic record of 243.2.
Meanwhile, Manu became the fifth Indian after Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang and Vijay Kumar to win an Olympic medal. Besides Manu, two Indian shooters have qualified for the gold medal match – Ramita Jindal in women’s 10m air rifle and Arjun Babuta in men’s 10m air rifle.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Olympic gold medalists in shooting, Bindra, took to social media to congratulate Bhaker for a bronze medal win at the Olympic Games 2024.
