In his first televised interview after stepping back from the 2024 presidential race, President Joe Biden has issued a stark warning about Republican candidate Donald Trump, labelling him “a genuine danger to American security.”
‘Mark my words…’
During an interview with CBS News, that aired on Sunday, Biden expressed deep concern over the potential consequences of a Trump victory. “Mark my words, if he wins… this election, watch what happens,” Biden cautioned.
Biden emphasised the significance of the current global landscape, stating, “We’re at an inflection point in world history. We really are… and democracy is the key.”
The US President said it was his obligation to the country to defeat Trump.
“I think I have an obligation to the country to do what [is] the most important thing you can do, and that is, we must, we must, we must defeat Trump.”
Biden said that Trump’s recent statements underscore a threat to democracy.
“He evidenced everything that we thought,” he said.
“Now, January 6th, attack on the Capitol, he talks about now, because he now talks about making sure they’re all, you know, let out of prison. He’s gonna pardon them.”
“Think of this. Every other time the Ku Klux Klan has been involved they wore hoods so they’re not identified. Under his presidency, they came out of those woods with no hoods, knowing they had an ally. That’s how I read it. They knew they had an ally in the White House. And he stepped up for them.”
Will Trump accept another loss?
The Democrat leader revealed that he is not confident that Trump would allow a peaceful transfer of power if he loses to Vice President Kamala Harris. He cautioned that a “bloodbath” was a real possibility.
“He means what he says. We don’t take him seriously. He means it. All the stuff about, ‘If we lose, it’ll be a bloodbath …’ Look what they’re trying to do now in the local election districts where people count the votes. They’re putting people in place in states that they’re gonna ‘count the votes,’ right?”
“You can’t love your country only when you win,” he stressed.
