Indian speedster Mohammed Shami has lashed out at veteran commentator Sanjay Manjrekar ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In a social media post, Shami took a dig at Manjrekar for his comment that he would be sold at a low price due to fitness issues. Unhappy with the comment Shami took to his social media handle and sarcastically suggested Manjrekar should be an astrologer.
Shami takes a dig at Manjrekar
Earlier, in the build-up to the IPL 2025 mega auction, Manjrekar raised concerns about the fitness of the veteran bowler preparing for an international comeback.
“There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami’s injury history — and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover — there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season,” Sanjay Manjrekar said on Star Sports.
“Baba Ki Jay Hooooo. Thoda sa gyan apne future ke liye bhi bacha lo kaam ayeaga Sanjy G. Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile (Save a little wisdom for your own future. If anyone wants to know their future, do contact ‘baba ji’),” Shami wrote in an Instagram story, mocking Manjrekar.
Shami set for comeback in Indian team
While he was not retained by Gujarat Titans in the retention window, he could still don the colours of the side of a Right to Match (RTM) card used by the franchise. Gujarat has one RTM card and will be desperate to land their prize asset who helped them win the IPL 2022. On the other hand, Shami will be looking to make his way back to the Indian team having missed out the Australian tour. However, if fit he could be traveling Down Under in case there is any injury situation in the team.
He was recently named in Bengal’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy squad and also represented the side in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season.
