Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper MS Dhoni took an incredible full-stretch catch during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Tuesday (March 26). The catch was taken in the eighth over of the chase when GT batter Vijay Shankar edged a ball off Daryl Mitchell and Dhoni flung to his right to grab it.
The crowd in Chennai, home of CSK, went into a frenzy, as they usually do for MS Dhoni, who probably is playing his final season of the cash-rich league. Have a look at the video of the catch below:
Shankar was the third wicket to fall for GT who could never get going in the chase of 207. After Shankar went back, David Miller (21) and Sai Sudharsan added 41 runs for the fourth wicket and that remained the biggest partnership of the innings. GT could eventually manage 143/8 in 20 overs and lost the game by 63 runs.
For CSK, Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman and Tushar Dehspande took two wickets each, while Daryl Mitchell and Matheesha Pathirana chipped with one apiece.
Earlier, CSK’s Kiwi opener Rachin Ravindra gave his team a flying start by scoring 20-ball 46 and added 62 runs for the opening wicket with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. CSK never lost momentum in their innings, thanks to Shivam Dube’s attacking 23-ball 51 before debutant Samir Rizvi’s 6-ball 14 cameo.
Rizvi came in to bat in the 19th over of the first innings and hit GT spinner Rashid Khan for a six on the first ball over square leg. He was promoted up the order to number five and CSK batting coach Mike Hussey called it a masterstroke from the think tank. Rizvi went on to hit Rashid for one more six in the same over before his innings was cut short in the final over by Mohit Sharma as CSK finished at 206/6 in 20 overs.
