SunRisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) Travis Head has equalled Delhi Capitals (DC) batter Jake Fraser-McGurk’s Indian Premier League (IPL) record of scoring most fifties in or under 19 balls. Both the players now have three fifties each in or under 19 balls in the IPL. Head reached the record in the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Wednesday (May 8) by scoring a 16-ball fifty.
Head and Fraser-McGurk have scored their all three fastest fifties in the ongoing IPL season. Head’s two other fifties apart from the one against LSG on Wednesday came against Delhi Capitals off 16 balls (April 20) and Mumbai Indians off 18 balls (March 27).
Fraser-McGurk, on the other hand, scored his fastest fifties against SRH off 15 balls (April 20), Mumbai Indians off 15 balls (April 27), and Rajasthan Royals off 19 balls (May 7).
Thanks to Head’s blistering innings and his unbeaten first-wicket partnership with Abhishek Sharma (75 not out off 28 balls), SRH chased down the 166-run target in 9.4 overs vs LSG – making it fastest run chase in all T20s of minimum runs. The duo scored the runs at a whopping run rate of 17.27.
Head hit eight fours and eight sixes in his innings during which he reached his fifty off just 16 balls. Abhishek, on the other hand, smashed eight fours and six sixes as well, reaching his fifty in just 19 balls. The duo also scored 107 runs in the powerplay – the second most ever in the first six overs of the IPL. The record of most runs in the IPL history of 125 runs also belongs to SRH.
Hyderabad are now third on the points table with 14 points after seven wins and five losses in 12 games. LSG, meanwhile, are now sixth with 12 points to their name after six losses and six wins in 12 games.
