Saira Banu has finally broken her silence. On Nov. 19, Banu and AR Rahman announced their divorce ending their 29 years of marriage.
Since the shocking announcement, various speculations started circulating online. Among many, the one rumour that took the internet by storm was the allegation of affair levelled against Rahman.
The rumours began when bassist Mohini Dey, who works with the Academy-winning composer, announced her divorce on the same day. This led many to think that there was a connection between the two breakups. Although Rahman and Saira’s lawyers have already dismissed any links between the two breakups, this didn’t stop the netizens from spreading false content about them and their separation.
Saira Banu breaks silence on false rumours
A day after Rahman issued a stark warning to the people posting defamatory content against them, Banu released a statement addressing the false rumours circulating online and tarnishing Rahman and her family’s image.
In the audio clip shared, Banu revealed her health as one of the reasons behind her separation from her husband.
Banu revealed that she has been “physically unwell” for a while now, and that’s why she took a break from AR.
Requesting YouTubers and media to stop blaming AR for the divorce, she said, “I’m currently in Bombay. I’ve been physically unwell for the last couple of months. So that’s the reason I just wanted to take a break from AR, but I would request the entire YouTube YouTubers, the Tamil Media, please please do not say anything bad against him. He’s a gem of a person, the best man in the world.”
She added further, “Yes, it’s it’s just because of, my health issues I had to leave Chennai because I knew if I’m not in Chennai, you people will wonder where Sarah is. And I’ve come here to Bombay. I’m going ahead with my treatment, and this wouldn’t have been possible with AR’s busy schedule in Chennai, and I didn’t want to disturb anybody.”
Without mentioning Dey’s name, she dismissed affair allegations against Rahman. “He’s an amazing human being. And all I would request is please just let him be the way he is. I trust him with my life. That’s how much I love him, and that’s how much he does. So I kindly request you stop all the false allegations against him.”
Concluding the message, she urged the people to stop tarnishing Rahman’s image.
On Saturday, Rahman shared a three-page warning against those who have been spreading defamatory posts related to his divorce.
Through the letter, Rahman’s lawyers have issued a warning to remove all the objectionable content in the next 24 hours.
