Rapper Rich Homie Quan is no more. The Atlanta rapper, best known for his songs such as ”Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh) has died. He was 34 years old.
Quan, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, breathed his last on Sept 5 at his Atlanta home. The cause of death is unknown at this time.
The rapper’s death was confirmed by the Fulton County Medical Examination. As reported by Billboard, they said in a statement, “On Thursday, 5 September 2024, the Fulton County Medical Examiner was notified by Grady Memorial Hospital of the death of Dequantes Devontay Lamar.”
As per TMZ, Quan’s girlfriend called 911 after she found the rapper in an ”unresponsive condition”.
The rapper’s girlfriend told the dispatcher that the rapper was not breathing and did not have a heartbeat. He was found in an unresponsive condition on a couch at his home.
Quan’s family is ”shattered and heartbroken” by his sudden death, as per TMZ.
Born Dequantes Lamar in Atlanta, music had always been Quan’s hobby. However, he started making the songs in 2010 and got his breakthrough in 2013 after his song ”Type of Way”, which became a super hit.
The other of his fan-favourite songs are “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)”,”Ride Out, YG’s “My N—-” with Jeezy.” In his short-lived career, he has collaborated with rappers like 2 YG, Gucci Mane, Young Thug, Trinidad James, and more.
Soon after the news of Quan’s death broke, his several fans, celebrity friends and musical peers paid tribute to the late rapper.
Mourning Quan’s death, rapper Boosie Badazz allegedly claimed that the rapper died of a drug overdose.
“Just got word @RichHomieQuan just OD‼️” Badazz wrote in an X post. “Just talk to (Q)uan the other day.”
R&B singer Jacquees wrote on X, “Rest in peace my brother Rich Homie Quan. I love you for life,” he wrote.
