Stree 2 has been declared as the first hit for Bollywood in 2024. And while Amar Kaushik’s directorial has been receiving love from audiences all over the world, the success of the film, it seems, has led to a PR tussle between the film’s lead stars Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor. Both are represented by different PR agencies, and both agencies have been projecting their respective stars as the sole reason for the film’s success. However, Rao and Kapoor’s Stree 2 co-star Aparshakti Khurana has credited the audiences’ love as the reason for the film’s success.
The actor spoke to Zoom, where he shared that he finds the ongoing PR game between Stree 2 lead stars to be ‘slightly unpleasant’.
The actor initially refrained from commenting on the issue and said he is only interested to know that the audience has liked the film.
He gave credit to the audience and the media for the success of the film, adding that the film is doing well because it has received so much positivity from both of these sources.
Rajkummar Rao on Stree 2 success: These numbers are way above our expectations
Commenting on the tussle, Khurana said, “It shouldn’t have happened now, when everyone is in a happy space, celebrating the film. In between all these things, when this happens, then you have to also take a side, but I don’t want to do that. They are all equally close to me and I respect their journeys. I am a big fan of journeys. What someone has gone through and can do well. Someone can dance well, act well, look well, or even do PR well. So there will be talent of all kinds, which can help that journey. I wouldn’t call PR my most strong part.”
Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 was released in theatres on August 15 on the occasion of Independence Day. The film features Rajkummar, Shraddha, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi along with Aparshakti Khurana. The horror-comedy has earned over Rs 5 billion globally.
WION’s review of Stree 2
WION’s Shomini Sen in her review stated that the film’s second half was ‘choppy’. “I wish Stree 2 climax was not so screechy and the second half was not this stretched. I did enjoy watching the film but the second half marred the experience to quite an extent. It ends with a promise of Part 3 and the possibility of a Vampire film being added to the horror universe of Maddock,” wrote Sen. Read full review of the film here
