Halsey went through what most girls would describe as “the worst nightmare for someone in their 20s” and she is candidly speaking about it. The singer revealed that she suffered a miscarriage right before a concert when she was 20.
Revealing the harrowing experience on the SHE MD podcast on Tuesday, Halsey told co-hosts Mary Alice Haney and Dr Thaïs Aliabadi, “I miscarried during a concert. I started miscarrying before the show. And I was in a really tough position because it was really early on in my career and there was a lot attached to the show.”
Halsey added, “There was a corporate partner, there was a greater media entity partner, but more importantly than that to me, there [were] a thousand kids who waited all day long to get into this show and see me.”
“And what ended up happening was I ended up just putting on an adult diaper. They’d only asked me to perform I think 45 minutes. And I didn’t really have that much music out, to be honest with you, so I don’t know that I could have played longer,” she continued.
After the show, Halsey threw up in the parking lot, went back to her hotel and felt sick all night. What made things worse was that she had an early morning flight the next day for Canada.
At the time, Halsey had no one to speak to. She was hesitant to open up about the miscarriage and she felt alone. “And I remember thinking to myself, ‘I’m just 20 years old. I should be able to carry a baby.’ I didn’t want to be pregnant. I was way involved in my career,” added Halsey.
In 2021, Halsey welcomed her first child with ex-partner Alev Aydin.
