American actor Tony Todd is no more. The actor, known for his roles in the Candyman horror franchise, breathed his last on Wednesday (Nov 8) at his home in Marina Del Rey, California. He was 69.
Todd died after a long illness, his wife, Fatima, told The Hollywood Reporter. However, the exact cause of death has not been revealed yet.
The actor has enjoyed a successful career and has been featured in famous film franchises and shows, such as Final Destination, Transformers films, and Star Trek shows.
Born on December 4, 1954, in Washington, D.C., Todd completed his studies at the University of Connecticut before he earned a scholarship to study theatre at the Tony Award-winning Eugene O’Neill National Actors Theatre Institute.
In his career spanning over decades, Todd has starred in numerous films, Broadway and shows. He made his debut in films in 1986 with the movie Sleepwalk and went on to star in 200 shows and films. However, he got his breakthrough in 1992’s Candyman by playing the role of a black hood-wielding ghost. He went on to play the role in 1995’s Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh and in 2021 remake of the same name.
The other movies that he has been part of are William Bludworth’s Final Destination films.
Todd is survived by his wife, Fatima, and two children, Alex and Ariana.
Soon after the news of Todd’s death broke, tributes started pouring in.
Remembering Todd, Insomniac Games wrote in a statement shared on X, “Insomniac Games is heartbroken by the passing of our friend Tony Todd. He brought so much joy to our studio during the production of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and to many fans around the world with his inimitable voice and presence. We are Venom… forever.”
An X user, who goes by the name Dead Meat, called Todd, ”a titan of the horror community.’

In Candyman (1992), Tony Todd was covered in REAL bees. He only agreed to shoot this scene if they paid him $1000 per bee sting. He earned $23,000.
